Thy Dong – Agriculture (Cambodia)
Thy Dong is 47 and married with two children aged 26 and 9 – the youngest is at school while the eldest is already working. Thy lives with his family in Thoul Lvieng village, Odambang II commune, Sangke district, in Battambang province. Thy and his wife Chou have worked as rice farmers for the last 20 years. They cultivate around two and a half hectares of rice paddy. When farming wet season rice they can expect two and a half to three tonnes of rice per hectare. They generally use cows to plough their land. This can be time consuming. To improve efficiency they have decided to take out a loan in order to buy a hand tractor.
