Buana – Artisan (Bali, Indonesia)

Buana grew up surrounded by handicrafts in Gianyar, a part of Bali renowed for its beautiful landscapes and artistic legacy. In 1990, he learned the crafting of silver from a friend in Celuk. Supported by his family, he continued his profession as a silversmith, focusing on uniquely-designed and crafted jewelry.

He has recently been featured as an artisan on NOVICA, an organization developed in association with National Geographic in order to give artists and artisans around the world a global platform to express their true artistic talents and spur their creativity. His NOVICA page and current offerings can be seen at http://www.novica.com/artistdetail/index.cfm?aid=5503.

The loan is provided at 0% interest through NOVICA and allows Buana to purchase supplies of silver and other materials needed to develop and expand his business.

“I am thankful to God for giving me such a great gift so I can make a living for my family. Not much, perhaps, but enough for our simple way of life,” he says. “Hopefully through Novica I can offer a better future to my wife and two children.”
